Over the years I have enjoyed creating images in pen and ink, acrylic and watercolour mediums, but something was lacking. I needed a new means of expression that would enhance my affection for bright flowing paintings in natural themes. Since childhood, I have been especially drawn to texture, ranging from hard stone to soft moss.
Eventually, I discovered ceramic tile and have been inspired ever since. I was smitten by the cool, hard and varied surfaces available in tile and invigorated by the endless possibilities it provides. The paint can be manipulated in ways that traditional paper does not allow. I became interested as well in the non-traditional use of colour to punch up my design work.
In 2009, I moved to Cambridge, Ontario, where my home-based studio is now located. I have exhibited my work at craft shows in Kitchener, Hamilton and Dundas and hope to participate in the 2010 Cambridge Studio Tour & Sale this September. Presently, I have my tiles displayed in several Ontario centres including, Huntsville, Stratford, London and Toronto. In 2006 and 2007 I opened my studio to the public for Arts Dundas, an annual event organized by the Carnegie Gallery, which takes place each year on the first weekend of November.
